(Whiteboard: [training][ttw][oct17])

filed a request with studio mofo for a new training site to launch end of summer/pre mozfest
Depends on: 1016392
Whiteboard: [training][ttw]
http://training.webmakerprototypes.org/ @ ErikaD: zero rush. But when you know if / when this can fit in Studio Mofo queue, let us know? It will impact some other tickets we've got.
Summary: Design Training site → Re-design Webmaker Training site

* marking [sep5] -- but could be punted later.

I haven't discussed this with Laura much yet, so yes, let's mark it for the end of summer for now.

I would say September 5th is the LAUNCH of redesigned, code reviewed, copy reviewed training site. Want to do an online training push for back to school, so I've been marking pieces and parts August.
Status: NEW → ASSIGNED
* Let's make sure we're allocating design resources in alignment with the up to date larger plan for what we're doing with training. * ErikaD is trying to plan / allocate her design resources, so we should get clarity on questions like: * Are we doing a "back to school" campaign / push? Is Training a part of that? * What work is needed in terms of copy updates, design, etc. * How are we dividing up the work, in terms of Studio MoFo, Product Team, etc. Brett and Claw: thoughts?

Perhaps training is a good thing to think about in reference to the "fall campaign"

* Good thought Laura. Let's define our requirements. * Geoff / Hannah: thoughts?

Summary: Re-design Webmaker Training site → Define training requirements for fall campaign (if any)
Can we move this into a quick chat? There are a lot assumptions baked into the word 'training'. We need to break it out into three things: 1.) User Success - A weekly (or more frequent) call where a paid Mozilla staffer walks Level 1 users through how to run an event. I.e., no creation, forking, joining, etc. Almost pure instruction manual content. 2.) In-person Training for Partners - Where we fly people to run day long training sessions for large partners. I.e., we gather 300 YMCA after school counselors into a room where they are taught how to implement Webmaker into their programs. Maybe slight remix, but no content creation, no join appeal, etc. 3.) Super Mentor Training - Where we poach the best of (1) and (2) into the larger training program anchored on Discourse and the other work Laura's put in place.

* Geoff: these bullets are super helpful. * Are there things Laura, me or others should be doing on (2) or (3)? Or is it too soon?
Flags: needinfo?(geoffrey)
The priority is on getting 1 and 2 in place. Laura's already done a lot of work on 3. The pressure on 1 flows from the work we're doing with the wizard and the simple makes. The training should speak specifically to running an event anchored on each of the three makes: hack your school, YouTube Karoake, and Private Eye. It should be set up to be delivered once a week. So we need a schedule, sign-up form, regular room, etc. Questions: Who writes it? Who delivers it? How do we get people into it? The pressure on 2 flows from the fall campaign. It should be tailored to suit the needs of the After School Alliance, which is currently the biggest partner we're targeting to bring on board. Action: Laura needs to meet with AnMe, Amira, and me to talk this through.

Would love to see this documented on an updated version of this planning wiki once the dust settles: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Webmaker/Training
* I just started updating that wiki -- Michelle can you take next pass?
Whiteboard: [training][ttw][sep19] → [training][ttw][oct3]
Whoa...The 1, 2, 3 of Geoffrey's proposal leaves out some important things. We've been working on all of these things none-the-less (not just #3 as you're suggesting). Michelle and I started a slidedeck that outlines the training strategy, and it is much more precise: https://docs.google.com/a/zythepsary.com/presentation/d/1Zm-dbLuKlch44r_fEirAhyeDwXvH3D2EADlprcEuUnY/edit?pli=1#slide=id.g3700ebfda_059 To respond directly to these points: >1.) User Success - A weekly (or more frequent) call where a paid Mozilla staffer walks Level 1 users through how to run an event. I.e., no creation, forking, joining, etc. Almost pure instruction manual content. We have a weekly call, step-by-steps and open forums for people to get help. We are constantly refining this offering based on real needs. We've tried the instructional model and it's not lucrative to do this with a person every week. Videos are being collected here: https://laura.makes.org/thimble/MTU0MTc5OTkzNg==/maker-party-partner-training The next iteration for the kind of mass modeling (aka "certification") we're proposing is in bug 1052475 >2.) In-person Training for Partners - Where we fly people to run day long training sessions for large partners. I.e., we gather 300 YMCA after school counselors into a room where they are taught how to implement Webmaker into their programs. Maybe slight remix, but no content creation, no join appeal, etc. Partner trainings are about creating a personalized experience for partners. There's always content creation. Rote rinse and repeat doesn't work in learning. Different learners have different needs. Partner needs have to be addressed. We've done both ways and the value in return is wildly different. >3.) Super Mentor Training - Where we poach the best of (1) and (2) into the larger training program anchored on Discourse and the other work Laura's put in place. We have a detailed and thought out blended learning model. The model, which is what the above slidedeck is based on, has been prototyped, tried, tested, and refined. I disagree strongly with the wiki remix and with the 1, 2, 3 implications that none of this exists. There was a roadmap, history, plans...this documentation has been growing and hiding it, labeling it "old" is a bit frustrating, especially when existing work isn't taken into account. Maybe the best way forward is your response to the slidedeck and RFC and then talk about next steps for training and resourcing it.

Hey all, a lot of this is in flux and development at the workweek. Let's hold off on solving in this bug for now.

* The [oct3] train has now left the station. So please update the whiteboard with [oct17], or whatever train you're now planning to put this on. Thanks!
