Seems like bug 983489 is coming back :(
In general, shutdown is in a rough shape. We probably can't fix these one by one, it needs to be an organized approach to design the proper shutdown procedure and then follow it. I know bjacob was thinking about it in the context of e10s, perhaps we should think about it together and sooner.

Looks like this isn't happening in nightly any more, so bug 1072491 should have indeed fixed it. lets get it uplifted.
