In NS 4.x, Help -> Release Notes went directly to the release notes page. I'm not exactly sure why we don't in Mozilla. Releases and release notes aren't the same. If we really want to link to the releases page, I think we should add another menu item called "Releases", but let's not steal the "Release Notes" item for that.

Agreed. The URL would have to be modified between each release, but in my opinion that could be done by the same person who bumps the version number in About Mozilla.

timeless, yes that would be cool. But exactly how do you accomplish that?

The server side fix could redirect people based on their User Agent. However, this would be bad - I may well want to read the draft 0.9.5 release in a 0.9.4 build. The other option would be a redirect from a common URL (e.g. http://www.mozilla.org/releases/release-notes) which changed every milestone; but that would also be non-trivial, I think. CCing Dawn re: that option. The _really_ sensible thing would be for the client to work out the correct release notes based on its own User Agent using a bit of chrome JS. That wouldn't be too hard, but would need us to maintain a consistent naming scheme on the server side. I doubt that would be a problem. Anyone up for coding that? Gerv

After a talk with Asa in #mozilla, it seems there is no good and quick way to do this. The UA is not permanent (it can be changed by the user) which is complicated by the fact that the UA can be ahead of the game on CVS (for example it could be 0.9.5 which we don't have relnotes for yet), and we both agree that we shouldn't have to update this every few weeks for a new milestone. The only suggestion that will be feasible is perhaps Gerv's second idea of having a general release-notes page on the web server. That should be a different RFE for mozilla.org though. Verifying WONTFIX for now.
