Helping my step-father with his computer full of adware, I noticed that the adware SelectionTool, SpecialSavings or 2YourFace 1 could not be removed (cf screenshot).
The "Reset Firefox" button didn't remove the extension.
I had to use adwcleaner to remove it.

If extensions are installed to a system directory Firefox cannot remove it. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Cannot%20uninstall%20an%20add-on#w_globally-installed-extensions
