DESCRIPTION:

This patch allows to send comments for translation to babelfish...

DETAILS:

translate.cgi:

translate.cgi is that page that does a redirect to babelfish.. It was necessary
to go through a separate page because babelfish wants unicode encoding... and
bugzilla does not want this !

babelfish.patch:

actual patch to defparam.pl and globals.pl.. The user interface is added in the
code that displays the comments in globals.pl and defparam.pl allows to
configure the babelfish feature.

babelfish.patch.alternative:

alternative version of the patch that can install on different version of
bugzilla as the one the patch was made for.. This patch does not support reverse
applying... but does the same thing.

REQUIREMENTS:

- the translate.cgi files needs the Unicode perl libraries to transform text to
UTF8.
- the patch has been based on the bugzilla post 2.14 codebase tagged with
bugzilla_mozilla_org_2001-Aug-31

WARNING:

using Netscape Communicator 4.x there might be some problems with garbling of
characters as it seems that the browser does not always like the fact of
switching character sets... Usually reload of the pages seems to solve the problem.

AUTHOR(S):

This patch has been developed by Ludovic Dubost <ludovic@netvalue.com> for the
bugzilla installation at Netvalue (http://www.netvalue.com).

This is a bit specialist...

Gerv
I think hacking the appropriate template would be a better way of doing this
once we've templatised the appropriate parts.
Should we check the translation script into contrib?

Gerv
We are currently trying to wrap up Bugzilla 2.16. We are now close enough to
release time that anything that wasn't already ranked at P1 isn't going to make
the cut. Thus this is being retargetted at 2.18. If you strongly disagree with
this retargetting, please comment, however, be aware that we only have about 2
weeks left to review and test anything at this point, and we intend to devote
this time to the remaining bugs that were designated as release blockers.
Target Milestone: Bugzilla 2.16 → Bugzilla 2.18
This is a nice feature, but maybe the contrib directory is really the right
place. I believe a really good implementation would involve the user being able
to select one particular translation and then have a "translate this bug" link
in the footer.

The User Interface component now belongs to Gerv. Reassigning all UNCONFIRMED
and NEW (but not ASSIGNED) bugs currently owned by Myk (the previous component
owner) to Gerv.

Reassigning back to Myk. That stuff about Gerv taking over the User Interface
component turned out to be short-lived. Please pardon our confusion, and I'm
very sorry about the spam.

What's the state of this for 2.17.x? The patches surely will be for 2.14.
This feature is worth being in Bugzilla, although the UI may need revamping, and
the code certainly does considering when the patches were posted. Ludovic, if
you are still interested in getting this into Bugzilla, then reassign to
yourself and set the target milestone (2.18 if you expect to get to this within
the next month, a later milestone otherwise).
