Details

I've noticed listening to some long podcasts by opening an audio file in a tab that the computer will still sleep after not touching the keyboard/mouse for however long, before my podcast is finished. I think sleeping should be prevented while the media file is playing.
We've been adding WakeLockListeners for each platform, and HTMLVideoElement currently requests the 'screen' WakeLock topic when playing. This bug should just be about audio then. It looks like we'd need to support a separate topic to keep the application running (but allow the display to sleep) while playing only audio.
(In reply to Ralph Giles (:rillian) from comment #1) > It looks like we'd need to support a separate > topic to keep the application running (but allow the display to sleep) while > playing only audio. That sounds perfect.
Summary: playing audio/video elements should prevent the system from sleeping → playing audio elements should prevent the system from sleeping but allow the display to sleep
There's work in bug 1022669 to only request the screen lock when we're playing audio.
