I'm using the test builds hosted by mozilla: I'm able to use mapi when sending files from the desktop by using the system context menu just fine. However, when I'm in a MS Office '97 product like word or excel, I don't seem to be able to send the document to someone via mapi. This could just be pilot error but under the file menu in msword, the only Send To option visible for me is something called "Fax Recipient". I don't get a send to option to send mail via MAPI. I don't see anything under the file menu in excel. My machine has never had communicator 4.x nor OE installed on it. Pilot error or a real problem?
this is relative to bug #102389, MAPI is not enabled so you won't have the option to send from Word or Excel. Mozilla doesn't enable MAPI, it assumes it is enabled(from another MAPI client). Whether we should or not is open for debate, but it certainly makes sense to consider it for scenarios like yours where a user wishes not to use Outlook Express or some other MS MAPI email client.
the strange thing is I think mapi is working though just not for MS office applications. I can go to word pad and click Send to -> Mail Recipients and it launches the test build correctly. Same thing for Send To on the desktop. If I turn mapi off for the test build then these don't work anymore. nominating for the branch in any case.
