If we land bug 982663 to enable app usage metrics collection, we should update mozilla.org/telemetry to disclose this collection. Currently the wiki indicates that telemetry is only about performance data. But bug 982663 ties FirefoxOS app usage metrics to the same telemetry switch. Bug 982663 includes updates to the FTU and Settings apps in FirefoxOS to disclose this, but those apps refer to mozilla.org/telemetry/ so we need to update the information there.

This only applies to FirefoxOS and only to version 2.1 and later. There is a chance, though, that bug 982663 will get uplifted to version 2.0.

I'm just guessing that "Data Safety" is the right product for this bug. Feel free to change it.
Alina: are you an appropriate person to take this bug, or do you know who can take it?

Hi David - The Data Safety product category is no longer being used. I'm refiling this under Firefox OS, but please update the Product and Component if this needs to be corrected.

The update to the Telemetry wiki should be made after the privacy review is approved and done for bug 982663. You should work with someone who owns the Telemetry page to update the data collection description.

Lawrence - Are you the right person for David to coordinate with?

Actually, it looks like Geoff Piper from legal will be handling this.

Geoff has added the wording needed in the FAQ in the legal bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1021259#c4: Let's revise the Telemetry FAQ(which is located here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Telemetry/FAQ) so that the second section entitled "What kinds of data does Telemetry send to Mozilla?" reads as follows:

"Telemetry collects information about your Firefox browsing experience to improve Firefox features, browser performance and stability. Examples of the kind of data Telemetry sends to Mozilla includes start-up time, time between cycle collector runs, memory heap used, whether hardware graphics acceleration or Java is enabled, Firefox OS app usage data (e.g., app installs/uninstalls, length of time the app is used, user language, OS version and build etc.), and more.

Telemetry does not collect any bookmarks, browsing history or passwords."
So we are clear in this bug, I have reviewed this from a Product/Legal perspective.

I drafted the revision for the Telemetry Wiki which Ravi pasted in Comment 4.

Comment 4 is correct and contains the changes/language needed.

The next step is to update the Telemetry Wiki.

Echoing Alina as she asked, Lawrence is that you who will take that task?
