Filing on demand based on bug 1031697. That bug was triggered by a code path that daily users exercise all the time. But apparently our test infra does not at all! This seems like a pretty serious omission. I will try to find at least the one code path causing that one particular bug and write an automated test for it, if easily possible. Still, I don't think the result would be a good regression test for exactly this kind of problems, but rather a general testing-patch (reason I'm filing it).
