The system: Linux KRUD - Red Hat 7.1 Varient (www.tummy.com) It is not the same as the bug problem of crashing the browser when the plug-in is lauched. This is a different problem. Here is my Mozilla version [dave@solar mozilla]$ ./mozilla -v ./run-mozilla.sh ./mozilla-bin -v MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=/usr/local/mozilla LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/mozilla:/usr/local/mozilla/plugins:/usr/lib LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/mozilla:/usr/local/mozilla/components SHLIB_PATH=/usr/local/mozilla LIBPATH=/usr/local/mozilla ADDON_PATH=/usr/local/mozilla MOZ_PROGRAM=./mozilla-bin MOZ_TOOLKIT= moz_debug=0 moz_debugger= Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.4) Gecko/20010913, build 2001091311 Here is what happened: 1) Went to a page that required the JAVA 2 plug-in. I can't give you the URL since a coworker set it up on our intra-net. 2) Was prompted to download plug-in. 3) Went to the Netscape plug-in download page. 4) Selected Linux 5) Downloaded Plug-in 6) Plug-in failed to install since I was not root. (I noticed it was trying to write to /usr/local/mozilla) 7) Launched a root console 8) Launched another Mozilla Browser from the root console 9) Successfully installed the JAVA 2 plug-in using Mozilla Browser running as root install.log stuff ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape6/english/6.0/unix/linux22/xpi/jre.xpi -- 10/08/2001 08:49:06 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sun Java 2 ---------- ** initInstall: 0 ** plugins folder: /usr/local/mozilla/plugins/ ** addDirectory() returned: 0 ** execute symlink.sh /usr/local/mozilla/plugins/java2/plugin/i386/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/local/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so returned: 0 [1/160] Create Folder: /usr/local/mozilla/plugins/java2 : : [159/160] Installing: /usr/local/mozilla/plugins/java2/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so [160/160] Executing: /tmp/xpinstall.sh Install completed successfully ** performInstall() returned: 0 Finished Installation 10/08/2001 08:49:11 10) Tried to click on the applet that needed JAVA 2 plug-in within the Mozilla Browser running root. It acted as if the plug-in was not installed. 11) Decided I probably needed to restart mozilla. Closed all mozilla windows. 12) Tried to restart mozzilla as my local user and got a dialoge box saying "The program must close to allow previous installation attempt to Complete. Please restart." with an "Ok" button. When I click Ok it quits. When ever I try to start mozzila the dialoge appears. 13) Logged out and logged back in. Still the problem persists. This is a major headache. I have been using mozilla as my email reader and now I am having difficulty getting to my eamil. I would love a quick solution on how to convince Mozilla that the installation was completed. I am just not sure where to begin.
