I'm using Mozilla-0.9.4 on RHLinux7.1. When I send messages, about 25% of the
time I get an error message that reads as follows:
The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: Error in IMAP
command received by server.
I'm using the Courier-IMAP server, running on the same machine as the QMail MTA
that is acting as the SMTP server. When I dismiss the error message, Mozilla
Mail tells me that the message has been sent, but that the message was not saved
in the "Sent" folder. (As you might guess, I've specified that the "Sent"
folder lives on the IMAP server associated with the mail account.) When I try
to access the "Sent" folder, the same error message is generated as when I sent
the message. When the contents of the "Sent" folder are displayed, it does NOT
contain the message in question.
If, however, I send another message, and the intermittent error message is not
displayed, then I will be able to access the "Sent" folder without error, and it
WILL contain the message in question. So all is actually funtioning as
expected, with the exception of the disturbing and incorrect error message being
generated.
The Courier-IMAP server has been compiled with the
--enable-workarounds-for-IMAP-clients option enabled. I can make an IMAP
account available on the server in question if it would be helpful to a Mozilla
developer who's working on this bug.

Marking these all WORKSFORME sorry about lack of response but were very
overloaded here. Only reopen the bug if you can reproduce with the following steps:
1) Download the latest nightly (or 0.9.6 which should be out RSN)
2) Create a new profile
3) test the bug again
If it still occurs go ahead and reopen the bug. Again sorry about no response
were quite overloaded here and understaffed.

Reporter, can you send the server and account info to me huang@netscape.com?
Thanks.

Reporter, are you sure that you already specified sent folder on the Courier
IMAP server?
I am wondering to know without bug 107646 fix, how can you specify Sent folder
on Courier IMAP?? Since from my case, I cannot specify Sent folder on one
Courier IMAP (please see the following screen shot that I got from one Courier
IMAP test account) unless there is server issue for this specific Courier
testing account......adding bug 107646 for this bug dependance. Reopening this
bug since I don't think that this is working. Ccing Cavin.

There is no way for drop down for specifying a "Sent" folder from the account
setting because of bug 107646.

Summary: bizarre error message w/ Courier-IMAP when sending messages → Courier-IMAP: bizarre error message when sending messages
I'm having the same problem with 0.9.6 (Linux) and Courier IMAP 1.3.12
(FreeBSD). I can select the appropriate Sent folder (which is actually
INBOX.Sent) in the Copies and Folders dialog, no problem at all. As soon as I
send mail, I get the same error message as the Reporter.
What's interesting is that my Mozilla mail filter rules (which essentially move
incoming e-mail from INBOX to various sub-folders of INBOX, such as
INBOX.Listmail) work fine.
No problems in Netscape 4.7x, either: using INBOX.Sent just works as it should.
Like the original Reporter, I'm willing to create a temporary IMAP account for
Mozilla developers if necessary.
The original reporter sounding off again here:
Oddly enough, my problem seems to have disappeared w/ an upgrade to 0.9.6. I
haven't seen the error message since I upgraded, and there have been no changes
on the mail server.
To the other person who's reporting the problem here: I'm curious about how
you're specifying your 'Sent' folder in the 'Copies and Folders' settings. I'm
using the 'Other:' box, and then selecting the appropriate folder from the list
of folders under the correct IMAP account. If you're using the '"Sent" Folder
on:' box, that may explain the different behaviours.
