I expect this to eventually be a meta bug. There are multiple technologies we should explore, WiFi-Direct, bluetooth, NFC etc.
Summary: "share firefox" via WiFi direct → add support to "share firefox" directly between phones

Karen, if we're planning on making a push on India and other similar markets, this should probably be tracking that release. So what do you want to do here?

I like the idea of sharing a tab to someone easily, and in most cases, share it via email would do the trick. For India, they actually rely on NFC more - which we already support (ahem) by bumping. But what could be MORE interesting would be via Bluetooth. I'm thinking of the emerging advent of BT-enabled (and wifi-enabled, for that matter) car infotainment systems. Both technologies have their benefits in both tech-advanced markets as well as developing-tech markets. Wi-fi projects are popping up to ease the cost of building more masts to support cellular data. But BT is built into most phones and also provides some baked-in UX to allow a tab to be accepted or not in a familiar way. What's the impact for exploring here? My reservation here is usage (benefit) vs the size of the project involved (not sure of effort here). I want to avoid putting too much into this if people are still either using email to share tabs (or copying & pasting into skype or via text etc). Especially with Quick Share, not sure if we'll save many clicks (if any at all)?

(saying all of that, I've noted it in my list to see if we could built a proper use case for sharing it via wifi to smart TVs, car infotainment systems, other users without sync, etc etc as well as the possible use case of making it easier for India / China. I have some digging to do here.)

Assigning to Karen so she create a plan around the idea. Not tracking for now.

(In reply to Karen Rudnitski [:kar] from comment #4) > I like the idea of sharing a tab to someone easily To be clear, this bug is about sharing the APK of Firefox directly.

Clearing the Need Info flag. Discussed last week and we'll look at this project (sharing the Firefox APK) and prioritize via the product funnel work.
