User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:29.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/29.0 SeaMonkey/2.26.1 (Beta/Release) Build ID: 20140612174402 Steps to reproduce: I frequently move blocks of email from one mailbox [folder] to another. Sometimes a few thousand emails are involved, most times it is 10-20 but even for 10-20 emails or sometimes even a single email, it will take from 1 minute to as much as 45 minutes for the task to complete. Moving the same blocks of email using Netscape [yes I still have a working copy of the Netscape suite running on one of my Windows XP systems] takes from a couple of seconds to perhaps a couple of minutes for several thousand mails to get moved Actual results: Sometimes a few thousand emails are involved, most times it is 10-20 but even for 10-20 emails or sometimes even a single email, it will take from 1 minute to as much as 45 minutes for the task to complete. Moving the same blocks of email using Netscape [yes I still have a working copy of the Netscape suite running on one of my Windows XP systems] takes from a couple of seconds to perhaps a couple of minutes for several thousand mails to get moved Expected results: The performance I would expect is for a few messages to move almost instantaneously and several thousand messages I would anticipate the move to complete in perhaps 5-10 minutes at most
POP or IMAP? Do you Compact (regularly or whatever)? Do you know if the situation is the same in Thunderbird?

I do compact regularly and especially after moving a large block of emails. While I don't have Thunderbird installed on any of my computers, a couple of my customers use it and the experience is similar in terms of moving mail from one box to another

The email accounts that I use in Seamonkey are all POP3 so the storage movements are local, not on a remote server.

Without STR its more or less impossible toget some progress here.
