Steps to reproduce:

Actual results:

no change

No need to keep this security sensitive.

Kenneth, there is literally no information to help someone diagnose the issue you are having. Please read https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/QA/Bug_writing_guidelines and help us help you by giving detailed instructions on how to reproduce the issue.

You filed this using Chrome, but that may just be because you couldn't use Firefox.

When you say "installed a fresh version": Where did you get the installer? Was it the latest Firefox 31?

When you say "browser opens in a blank page, menu box does not work": What do you mean *exactly*? Don't leave out any steps.

Hello I went to Mozilla and downloaded fire fox ver 31 there. I was useing ver 30 and the box in the upper right corner with the 3 horizantal bars used to I could click there and get the save page, zoom, the about fire fox where updates was and about 9 other options, Also the new ver 31 will not allow home pages to be set, when I reopen fire fox it goes to a blank tab, I have to type in any address for it to display properly(In reply to Bob Clary [:bc:] from comment #1)

Does it happen in safe mode (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode)? If it does not, please try disabling extensions to see if any of them is the cause.

Hello Firefox still opens in blank tab even in safe mode, my add ons are Personas,Personas+, Personas rotator, and the download status bar

Kenneth,

I think I know what the issue might be.

The 'hamburger' menu consisting of the 3 vertical bars should contain an Options choice. Click Options, then Click General which will give you the ability to choose what Firefox displays when it starts. You can pick "Show my home page", "Show a blank page", or "Show my windows and tabs from last time" You can also change your home page from the Mozilla Firefox Start Page to any other page.

If the 'hamburger' menu doesn't contain an Options choice, you can display the old style menu by pressing the Alt key. From there, click Tools, then Options and proceed as before.

Please let me know if this fixed your issue and whether your were able to use the 'hamburger' menu -> Options or if you had to press the Alt key then use the old style menu.

Still no use the hamburger is here but it still opens nothing, and bringing up the memu bar and trying to set a home page still will not allow me to set it.

Sounds similar to this support thread: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1012745

Some notes from that thread:

* It seems specific to Windows 8.1. However, I was not able to replicate it on a Windows 8.1 "home" system.

* A user who reinstalled Firefox 30 recovered use of the menu button but the browser still started up to a blank page instead of loading the home page. The home page did load correctly in a new profile. I do not have a detailed comparison of the differences between the profiles.
Got the same issues. Here'sand what I've done:

* I tried safe mode.
* I tried resetting Firefox.
*I uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times, both with keeping my profile and without - both ways don't solve the problem. I tried the install stub file and the full install file. Neither solve the problem.
* I ran ccleaner to clean out the registry between installs. No help.
* I manually renamed all the plugin files to eliminate plugins being the culprit, but my colleagues have the exact same plugins installed and they're not having issues on the latest version. Note I'm not talking about addons - that possibility was eliminated by reinstalling with a new profile so that's not it
* I uninstalled WebRoot (a small, simple rootkit detection software which banks usually offer you free of charge to ensure security while you're logged into their online services)
* I even went so far as to uninstall Chrome (since Chrome has a Google Update plugin which shows up in Firefox for some reason, so I thought it might be a conflict) and even Adobe Flash Player! Nothing.

Here are the symptoms:
* Can't open the hamburger menu.
* Can't customize. Typing about:customizing into the address bar opens a blank tab
* The Firefox home page doesn't work (as in, Firefox opens a blank tab instead of the home page, and if you click the home button and type something into the search bar and hit search, nothing happens)
The firefox message that pops up just below the address bar, for example when you're downloading an add-on and it shows the download rate, doesn't work.

Worth nothing is that I'm also on the [sarcasm]wonderful/sarcasm Windows 8.1. However, I have colleagues on the same version of Windows as me whoa re running Firefox v32 without issue.

Rolled back a few versions, and found that Firefox version 28, is the last version that works 100%.

If there's any other information I can provide you - logs, screenshots or what have you, just ask.
Another interesting quirk - I can't reopen closed tabs using the keyboard shortcut, the under the history menu:

* Restore Previous Session is greyed out
* Recently closed tabs is greyed out
* Recently closed windows is greyed out
Nothing on this? Basically half the browser functionality is not working, and we get the sound of silence? There's a large number of people struggling with this - are you even taking this seriously?
Ruggero, maybe you can find between which Nightly builds it starts appearing using mozregression: http://harthur.github.io/mozregression/
I'll do my best, but I can tell you that it starts going pear-shaped basically with the rollout of the new hamburger menu and menu option layouts.

I've already rolled back a few versions, and found that Firefox version 28 is the last version that works 100%.
Great, then start with something like Nightly 2013-12-09, which may have been between 28 and 29.
(Nightly is what mozregression downloads by default)
GOT IT! Switched the desktop theme back to a Windows standard theme, restarted Firefox, and... BANG! Everything working 100%!

I had downloaded and installed a Microsoft theme mind you, not some funny hack theme of any kind. I got it from Microsoft themselves: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ZA/windows/themes

Probably won't be the last time this issue crops up. Not sure if there's anything you guys can do to prevent this sort of issue or at least check for a non-default theme and popup a warning modal or something. First prize of course would be to support non-default Windows themes, but... ?
Kenneth, can you confirm that you were using a theme as well?

User zenithtwc posted in the SuMo thread that adding a registry key/value used by the built-in themes but not the downloaded themes worked around the problem:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM] "ColorizationColor"=dword:00000000
