firefox does not remember the default download folder, it changes it randomly b/w the current selected one and the ones used in past.

Firefox remembers the download folder per-site. This is not a bug but intentional behavior introduced in bug 536503. A preference to toggle this feature was added in bug 702748. To disable it, 1. Type about:config into the address bar and press Enter. 2. Click the “I'll be careful, I promise!” button. 3. Right-click somewhere in the lower pane and choose New, then Boolean. 4. As the preference name, enter browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite and as the value, enter false. 5. You may need to restart Firefox for the change to take effect.
