Desktop notifications are indeed deprecated on the web and in B2G (see bug 952453). However, we do still use it in places in gaia. I really don't have a strong opinion about turning the mochitests back on, but even if we do I doubt anyone will care enough to maintain them. My preference would be to let sleeping dogs lie.

In that case, could you remove them from the tree, to avoid confusion?

As long as we're using the feature we should try to have test coverage I think.
