Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:32.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/32.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140722195627
Steps to reproduce:
1. Click on the main menu button (the menu opens).
2. Click on the main menu button a second time.
Actual results:
The menu "opens" a second time (animates).
Expected results:
The menu should have closed.
All menus in every GUI I've ever used dismiss when you press whatever you clicked to open it a second time. Firefox's split drop-down buttons work as expected, as do the standard menus (e.g. Alt+F).
(Strangely, rapidly double-clicking the menu button does close it).

I wasn't able to reproduce the issue on Windows 8.1 64bit using latest Nightly 34.0a1 (buildID: 20140730030201).
Could you please try safe mode: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode ?
And with a new profile: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles ?

Ok, thanks. Disabling add-ons / safe mode / new profile made no difference for my install of Firefox 32 (although I confused myself for a while by making the second click too quickly, which does happen to close the menu in FF32 - probably by being a double-click event rather than just a second click).
However, I tried nightly (34.0a1 2014-07-31), and it looks like it has been fixed!
There is still a small issue in the nightly build I tried -- if you click twice so that the second (close) click occurs as the menu opening animation is still playing, the menu stays up. Note, this has to be quite a fast double-click to trigger this.
However, I don't know if this issue is significant enough to leave the bug open (with a new summary)?

Yes, this was fixed as part of bug 987230.

Personally, I don't think so. Neil? I guess we could attach the rollup listener sooner, but I'm not sure if that's worth it...

I don't see that issue myself. Note that on Windows a double-click doesn't cause a popup to close; you are probably seeing this.
