Steps to reproduce:

upgraded thunderbird on home  with ubuntu 12.04 x86-64 and ubuntu 14.04 x86-64
to 31


Actual results:

and get

Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent using SMTP server ... for an unknown reason. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again, or contact your network administrator.

All I can see on mail server (Ubuntu 12.04 , postfix) is
 postfix/smtpd[23084]: lost connection after STARTTLS from unknown[192.168.43.38]



Expected results:

It should send mail, as in previous versions.

Downgrading thunderbird to 11.0.1+build1-0ubuntu2 solves problem , but it have to be fixed..

Please see bug 1042647 if you may be using some cipher/protocol of SSL/TLS that was disabled in the new TB versions.
