Details
'control-n'opens new browser window -- URL field highlighted so can immediately
enter URL.
'control-t' opens new tab (in existing browser) -- the cursor at end of URL text
-- not highlighted. This requires mouse intervention (lame) or backspace to
erase existing entry in URL field (lame2).
Also, the 'tab' key while on first browser window access doesn't highlight URL
field (see Navigator v4x).

hello again --
after some further experience on issue, it seems intermittant (ie. based on
history of user actions -- historical).
The senario I discuss occurs regularly for me during day-to-day business (ie.
'control-n' results in new tab browser with no high-light on URL field). I
report back when have definitive reproducible example.

Reporter: Can you still reproduce it, or this this a duplicate of bug 103329 ?
Hello -- the rebuild of tab code seems to have resolved this issue.
The tab functionality with Nov 15th build seems to always have cursor available
after control-n and control-t.
Thx -GA
