The CSS3 Fonts spec includes 'font-variant' as a descriptor for @font-face rules. Once the parsing of the 'font-variant' property as a shorthand (bug 1041951) lands, it would make sense to add this descriptor to the @font-face rule also. I would propose doing this behind a pref flag for a few release cycles, then remove the pref.
