Steps to reproduce:

Rooted ZTE Open C via Comebuy rom and ZTE update tool.

1.3 : no more camera
updated to 1.4 rooted : no more camera

Updated via recovery backup to 2.1 : no more camera





Actual results:

In adb logcat, when i open the camera app, i have black screen on app and :

E/CameraService(  291): CameraService::connect X (pid 7131) rejected (invalid cameraId 0)

But the app seems to work as rotation of the screen works.

I can confirm the same behaviour here.

The camera work with a rooted ZTE and this Android CM mod :

Same from me.
Using dumpsys, it shows that HAL module is loaded, but no camera is found.

PS : Until now, all the people I know that have is bug are french (and bought their devices from Leclerc). Sylvain, where did you buy yours ?

I have to test today with kitkat.
I have another ZTE Open C still using stock ROM, will try to build latest B2G using blobs from it.
I would like to know from someone else who bought an Open C elsewhere.
No camera with kitkat from ZTE.

Hi,

Built B2G 2.1 from master yesterday thinking that it would make the camera work.
I confirm this behavior. Bought phone from E. Leclerc though...
I also have a ZTE open c from Leclerc, the camera only works with stock FFOS 1.3.
Well, we have one point shared with all our terminals :
- They are french ZTE
- They were bought at Leclerc

Is there anyone who bought one french ZTE terminal from somewhere else than Leclerc, and has the same problem ?
Or is there anyone who bought one english terminal and has the same problem ?

I confirm, all zte open c bought at Leclerc and LDLC in France have de same problem, camera don't work with any FFos's release ( I juste compiling all official FFos release from 1.4 to 2.2, It take my hollydayz x'D TT).

The camera just work only with the the release given by zte.
I send an email to us few days ago, ha no responces...

Bought in France from Materiel.net : same problem.
Tried comebuy FFOS_EU_EBAY_OPENCV1.0.0B04 : black screen.
Tried FFOS_EU_EBAY_OPENCV1.0.0B06 : black screen

Sadly, i didn't made any full backup... Impossible for me to get back to a working stock state.
Nice first contact with FFOS and ZTE.

I tried the official "Pack root du ZTE Open C" and i'm back to stock state with a working camera.
There are different hardware versions with several cameras, touch screen... So ZTE compile different stock ROMs. French ppl need a "special" FR EU version, not EU only. I suspect ZTE tool to detect hardware and flash things differently...
And may be more "surprises" to come.
Could anyone document more than just one logcat line? We cannot do much without more informations.

Would also be very useful if someone documented how they built the failing Gecko.

I haven't this issue (try with 2 terminal).
IMO you have root the ZTE open C FR with the Comebuy tools and a ZTE open C rom non-FR.

OK, here's the tip for solve the camera problem :

Download the root pack http://www.ztefrance.com/downloads/Pack_root_du_ZTE_Open_C.zip, unzip and follow instructions. This will root the terminal and flash a fresh 1.3 FFos whit camera working.

You can now upgrade FFos by compiling, jusy follow the instructions here https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS/Developer_phone_guide/ZTE_OPEN_C#Upgrading_Gecko_and_Gaia and go get your camera working after upgrading ;]

NEVER USE "Open_C_upgrade_Tool found at comebuy.com." for terminals brought on LDLC, Leclerc and materiel.net cause hardware is not the same for theses models and the other ( Comebuy Ebay etc...)
And do a factory reset after that ;)
I learned it the hard way : call crash, camera crash...
After factory reset settings, no more troubles. Back to normal state.

Same problem here. We bought 2 ZTE Open C from LDLC and they both have the camera problem with unofficial ROM (not from ZTE).

I'll try the upgrade by compiling (comment 17), after doing a factory reset.

If, you don't what to compile, i made a backup of the 2.0 fresh compiling here : http://furious-therapy.fr/zte-open-c.just go back official 1.3 and follow the link and DON T MAKE FACTORY RESET after uprading to 2.0 ^^ ;)

I now have B2G 2.2.0.0-prerelease, camera and light sensor work as intended.

I'll still try to do complete build "from scratch" to learn how Firefox OS works.

This is too bad there is multiple hardware variants of ZTE Open C.
