/attach irc.gnome.org should just work, rather than having to use /server
irc.gnome.org

can someone explain why this should work?
i can imagine wanting to attach a dns entry to a server alias /attach
irc.foo.bar barnet; /attach barnet
[or maybe /attach barnet irc.foo.bar]
I don't see why /attach which is about networks should randomly accept DNS
entries. That the function of /server (which is basically an irc app standard).

/attach does not create associations between servers and networks, and I have no
plans to make it do so. The idea behind this bug is that you will be able to
use /attach as a one stop connect-to-anything command, because it will be
implemented in terms of irc urls.
after this gets fixed, the following /attach commands will have meaning...
/attach moznet
-- works as in chatzilla 0.8.4
/attach moznet/#chatzilla
-- connects to moznet, joins #chatzilla.
/attach irc.mozilla.org/rginda,isnick
-- connects to mozilla.org, opens a query window to rginda.
/attach irc://irc.dal.net/javascript
-- connects to dalnet, joins javascript.
Summary: /attach should fall back to a url if it fails. → reimplement /attach to accept irc urls
