User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:34.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/34.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140824030210
Steps to reproduce:
Linux/Nightly - Clean Profile
No add-ons
Plug-ins - OpenH264 (Always Activate)/Flash (Never Activate)
Actual results:
When playing any HTML5 video on youtube, the audio stops completely after a few seconds. There are no audio issues when playing HTML5 videos on Vimeo or Dailymotion. Likewise, playing videos on youtube with flash. As far as I can see there are no error messages in the browser console or when running fx from a terminal and the video continues to play without issue.
Expected results:
Audio should play
Apparently, this also happens on Windows - Audio stops after a few seconds with YT/HTML5

I couldn't reproduce it using latest Nightly 34.0a1 (20140824030210) under Win 7 64-bit.
Component: Untriaged → Video/Audio
Product: Firefox → Core
I'm having the same issue. Video plays fine for 10-20% of the duration of the video and then the sound suddenly stops, while the video keeps on playing. Only a reload helps to solve the problem. This happens on a freshly installed Debian with a 'newish' profile. Flash was never installed on this system.

I have been experiencing this for around a month on Aurora branch using Windows Vista.
In the last week or so this has crept into Nightly/Linux which surprised me more, being a different branch and platform and very different profiles.
For both platforms I would estimate that I hit this around 25% of the time.
I'm usually always watching music videos 4-7 minutes duration. However I don't think the video is significant factor in the bug, but if it helps one video I saw it on yesterday is:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvKtxTsVoMo
However for both platforms the symptoms are the same: the video will play for sometimes 2-3 minutes (rarely less) and then just stop audio. The video will keep playing. If you rewind the video back to before the time it stops, the audio will restart and then stop again at the same point.
Refreshing the page (F5 it) will mostly cause the video to play properly.
I've tried watching youtube's debug stats (for nerds) but didn't see anything significant.
If there's any other debugging I can do from the Gecko side please ni? me and I'll try and provide the information.

In bug 1093568 it was noted that it occurs after switching tabs. I may have not noticed this distinction in the past. I'll make note of the tab state next time I notice the audio stopping.

I've been having this issue for about a week with Nightly on both Windows 7 and Arch Linux.
Audio doesn't cut out with any regularity - it varies from video to video, though I do find that with each video, it'll tend to cut out at the same time (so I'll have to skip 1 second ahead if I want to continue watching) even after refreshing.
An issue I'm having, which other commenters don't seem to be having, is that once the audio stops, if I try to pause and resume or jump around the video, it'll just freeze up and nothing will happen until I refresh the page.

Like zac said, I'm happy to run dubious commands, and provide other info, if it's of help.

I'm getting that too but I thought it seemed like a different bug because I get this when I hit the end of cached playable content too. Perhaps they are all related though.

So this happened for me, even when I had not switched tabs during the entire video.

The bug is easy to reproduce, at least for me when I play the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muW-yqp_YM4
The audio stops exactly at 50 seconds, but I can kind of 'recover' the audio if I rewind the video.

Thanks akullle, the video stopped at 0:49 for me and if I rewind the video 20 seconds or so it will stop there again (Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:36.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/36.0)
I think this is strong proof that it's a bug and not just some local configuration error.
I'll try and get some traction on this.

I'm facing this a lot :( and it's pretty irritating (and I normally don't comment such useless things on a bug), but it's certainly a bug in Nightly. Would love if it's fixed quickly :)

It seems that multiple issues are conflated in this bug:
- The initial bug does not have steps to reproduce, which makes it hard to do anything about it;
- Comments 3-12 are in the time range of a known regression with similar symptoms (bug 1093568);
- At this moment there's still a known issue with seeking on youtube (bug 1096790) with MSE enabled (media.mediasource.enabled)
I suggest waiting until all known issues with MSE are resolved, then filing separate bugs if there's still a problem.

If someone still experiences this issue, check if you have "media.mediasource.ignore_codecs" lying around in the about:config. A simple "reset" on this entry solves this issue ;)

This bug dates back to when Firefox MSE didn't work with YouTube. We have rewritten everything twice since then. Please file a new bug with clear steps to reproduce if there is still a problem.
