The three text fields are showing their "placeholder" text which is designed to be lighter to indicate that it's not actual content but placeholders. This idiom is used throughout the Firefox OS Gaia apps. The buttons are lighter because they are indeed disabled until you populate the fields, this is also in keeping with other apps/our "building blocks" styling. See: http://buildingfirefoxos.com/building-blocks/input-areas.html http://buildingfirefoxos.com/building-blocks/buttons.html I'm going to resolve this works-for-me since this UI did go through explicit UX review and visual design review and we're using existing building blocks themes/etc. I do agree that the display does look light/bright and may be initially confusing to users until they click on things. If you have specific ideas on how to do address that, it's probably best to subscribe to the dev-gaia mailing list and make a post with specific proposals where the User eXperience / Visual Design teams are more likely to see.

Check the shot again. Default button is much darker compared to the one on my shot. Besides that, notification bar seems a little blurry in area with clock which could indicate that there is another gray layer on top of Email UI. The thing is that "New account" text on my shot looks good so i'm very confused. If this is the default "New account" screen (besides things i mentioned above and assuming that my shot is 100% what mozilla wanted to see on that screen), then it will be confusing to new users. It looks too flat, with no visual indicators for users on what to do and buttons are not even the same colour as the buttons on building blocks.

Oh i realize now that button state is "disabled" on my shot. I would nominate this screen for redesign with exact indicators from start on what can be edited and what users can do on this screen.
