User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:32.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/32.0
Build ID: 20140825202822

Steps to reproduce:

Did nothing. Firefox just no longer displays icons on pinned tabs

Actual results:

Lost my pinned tab icons - NOT HELPFUL in quickly locating a desired view

Expected results:

Always used to have icons on the pinned tabs. Please get them back or tell me how I can get them back
Try to bookmark your pinned tabs and use this add-on to retrive the favicons:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/faviconreloader/

I followed your instructions and the icons were restored, but when I opened the item the icons don't even show in the full tab and the pinned tabs still show an empty dotted box (see additional attachments). Not at all happy with this development. May abandon FF for Chrome.
Is there anything special about the pages which have the problem? Session restore, HTTP icon on an HTTPS page, favicon.ico vs specified in the page, animation?

Someone on IRC had some relevant comments:
"fresh installed [Waterfox] 32 … the last [version before this] was Waterfox 29 … had no problems with favicons"
"only weird thing I'm doing is setting no disk cache … partly because I was going to install an ssd and I'm anally retentive about disk usage"

When asked to test with cache on then off to see if favicons appeared in pinned tabs:
"it seemed to work when I set the disk cache on. Then I turned it off again and it worked sometimes."

Since the NEEDINFO has gone unanswered for a month I'll adjust the summary accordingly.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
Summary: Pinned Tabs no longer have icons in FF32 - just a dotted box; want icons back! → Favicons not kept for pinned tabs when disk cache disabled
Keywords: regression
Just got a clarification, the method of turning off the cache used was to choose "Override Cache Management" in Options: Advanced: Network: Cache Management and set Cache size to 0mb

Going to about:config?filter=browser.cache.disk.enable and toggling it to False fails to reproduce the bug (in fact doing so "appears to correct the behaviour" as a workaround)
Summary: Favicons not kept for pinned tabs when disk cache disabled → Favicons not kept for pinned tabs when disk cache disk-cache set to 0mb
Summary: Favicons not kept for pinned tabs when disk cache disk-cache set to 0mb → Favicons not kept for pinned tabs when disk cache set to 0mb
This is probably a dup. Will check.
