Per the discussion in bug 102991, the "Show/Hide" submenu of the "View" menu could benefit from some rewording. 1) From an end-user's point of view, "bar" and "toolbar" are synonymous. Only one term need be used unless there is some distinction between the two that *must* be conveyed to the user. 2) The "Show/Hide" menu is made unnecessary wide by repeating "bar" and "toolbar" in each subitem. Eliminating the repetition and renaming the menu to "Show/Hide Bars" will save space. 3) "Personal Toolbar" conveys little meaning to end-users. Unless something other than personally selected or pre-defined bookmarks (Home, My Netscape, etc.) will appear in this bar then "Bookmarks" might be a better name. 4) "Web Navigation" might be a better name than just "Navigation" especially if the "Site Navigation" item remains so named. With these points in mind, the suggested changes are: +-------------------------+---------------------+ | Current Wording | New Wording | +-------------------------+---------------------+ | View | View | | Show Hide | Show/Hide Bars | | Navigation Toolbar | Web Navigation | | Personal Toolbar | Bookmarks | | Site Navigation Bar | Site Navigation | | Status Bar | Status | | Component Bar | Components | +-------------------------+---------------------+
Actually, since it's already under View, "Show/Hide" is awfully repetitive... View Toolbars Bookmarks Status Whatever Eaither way though. Just an idea.
I can't find my bug for this, picking the generic. The item used to say toolbars (see bug 83410) i'm not quite sure i understand the change. I seem to remember arguing about it. What i do see is that blake did a rubberstamp (rs=brendan) change claiming to go from 'Show' to 'Show/Hide' (wo a bug number !! in 2001 no less, long after established policy required bug numbers for changes) when in fact the change in many places was from the sane 'Toolbars' to the whacky 'Show/Hide'. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 89825 ***

Er...no....actually the (widely agreed upon) change I made was Show -> Show/Hide, as my checkin comment stated. But, checking Bonsai, I see that you're absolutely right -- I checked in without a bug number! Oh, that I had used better judgement on that lonely fourteenth of May. I feel so...humiliated, so...well, downright ashamed. What was going through that little head of mine when I typed `cvs commit'? What evil and malevolence then compelled me to press enter? It is clear what I have to do. On this tragic twenty-sixth of October, under the light of the ever-shining sun, I hereby turn in my checkin badge, that this final act might justify the injustice I have done to this project. Hopefully we may all meet again someday, somewhere, in some other open source project...
