Per Sotaro's suggestion in previous media work week, using the new Android camera API could be an alternative to Bug 938034. This bug is filed to track the evaluation works. Since new HAL code is not available on Flame, Nexus 5 will be used for experiments.
Sotaro - any comments about the current state of camera support, and if we should be targeting this?

Camera2 seems better api than ProCamera now. Therefore Bug 1144140 seems replace this. But I am not working for camera. :aosmond seems correct person for this question.

Some of my findings and thoughts for this bug are documented in [1]. IMHO we don't have to do this now because a) not a lot of devices fully support it. And because Google implements their Java binding such that old native camera code will continue to work (with limited functions), there is no compelling reason for existing devices to fully support it. b) one of its developer told me that the C++ interface is not stable yet.
Unassign myself since I no longer working on this.
