For example, if tinderbox has:
16:33   [waterson]  [mscott]
14:50         [hyatt]

I would like to be able to hold my mouse over any of the names and see a
title="" tooltip consisting of something like:

"Bug 959. Accesskey fixed for XUL. r=soandso, sr=somedude"

fwiw tinderbox has special support for nc4 where it does this kinda, the
difference is that it isn't accessible but it is much more useful.

would you mind if we implemented that instead?

When I try this in Netscape 4.7 I have to click on the person's name, it then
takes me to a new page with 4 or 5 options.

This wasn't really about accessibility. Since there is already an accessible
alternative, I was hoping for something that floats like a tooltip, so you can
stay on the same page and quickly look at what people were checking in that day.

erm. the version i used always brought up a layer or something so i didn't jump
to a new page. but it's been a while since i used it.

Anyways, would having the thing pop up to the right of the cell (top aligned) be
good enough? and if you mouse out of the popup it would go away.

Or we could have them popup w/ top left corner at the approximate center of the
name.  then it should be possible to reach all names...

title tips are interesting, but i find them much less useful than the links.

Ah right, nc4's thing didn't include checkin comments, that's fixable.

fwiw Alecf asked me to implement a bot that just spams a channel (say #checkins)
w/ the checkin comments.

Given irc.mozilla.org's behavior, i think we could make it interesting by having
the bot acquire nicks

This will probably be implemented by having the bot subscribe to a checkin list
mailer.

Tinderbox2 does something like this.  The tooltip shows the 
checkincomments as well as the files worked on.  It can be cumbersome
if lots of files have been touched.  It also is a bit contraversial as to
which popup library I use and how the popups behave.  I am marking
this fixed because I have something which works for some definition of 
'works' but this is also something under active development with [e-mail]
