There's been some excellent discussion about the need for a standalone WebRTC data channel library here: https://github.com/jbenet/random-ideas/issues/13 https://github.com/webrtcftw/goals/issues/1 Supporting a standalone data channel build would be extremely useful in the short term to dozens of projects, including WebTorrent <https://github.com/feross/webtorrent>, and help to differentiate this library from webrtc.org and OpenWebRTC.
