During QA of the initial site we noticed Fira rendered poorly on PC. Short term fix for this is detailed in the see also field. This bug captures figuring out a better solution.

This seems to mostly be a problem with the version of Fira Sans served by Google. Firefox's font smoothing isn't great on Windows but Google's Fira Sans is especially crummy. This screenshot compares Google's version of Fira Sans to our own copy from bedrock, hosted on our own CDN. I've also included our hosted Open Sans and a system font for comparison (even the system font is rough). This is VMWare running on a Mac, if that makes a difference. We should double-check on an actual Windows machine just to be sure. We can update the Open Standard to use our hosted fonts instead of Google's and it'll improve it significantly.
