yes, some netwerk changes have made it so we can't shut down protocol objects
cleanly anymore. Every time I fix this, they change something else to break it.
Until we have an app shutdown architecture that lets us shutdown cleanly and
asynchronously, we'll never be able to keep this working.

bienvenu, presumably you meant the likes of Bug 397498? Create a shutdown task manager for core mailnews

anyway, is this antique bug still valid, sufficiently covered in other bugs [1], or must it be tested?
