This ticket is part of a joint MoCo/MoFo contributor analysis project. Find out more here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Contribute/analysis

We are using one ticket per question to track this work. Our goal is to answer a number of questions before the co-incident workweek. Some questions will not be practical to answer in this timeframe and when this happens we will keep the tickets for ongoing analysis after the workweek.

QUESTION 3: Impact of *asking* for contributions

Search for data when we email (or do some form of outreach) towards contributors asking them to take action or do something. Does such outreach cause regular contributors to contribute? Does it activate non-participating contributors? Does it create new contributors?
We have looked for examples of when we have actively asked for contributions, and the most prominent is example is our about:mozilla newsletter.

This is sent to ~70k email addresses.

Our first task is to get the data from this newsletter and then see which corresponding contribution systems we could look at to see if there is noticeable impact on behavior because of these asks.

--

@Jennie is going to help us to get the newsletter stats:

Examples sent in the last ~12 months with:

* send date
* email stats (list size, open/click rate)
* Plus an archive of the email, so we can see what the contribution asks were

Hi Adam:

Last 12 months populated here: https://docs.google.com/a/mozilla.com/spreadsheets/d/1GkW3aeGvjRY5sQwdXVSb4dp5PeKUheN9f2dZs-e1PTE/edit

Archives of emails can be sent via pdfs if needed, otherwise they can be found blog.mozilla.com/community

Adding in specific links where they exist.

Also here's some analysis I have done over the past year of some of the categories: http://jennierosehalperin.me/on-pathways-data-and-some-of-what-mozillas-taught/

And here's a slideshow that talks about some averages for the CTRs
