User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:36.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/36.0
Build ID: 20141025030202
Steps to reproduce:
played videos on YouTube (mostly static images with music) and audio tracks on Soundcloud in latest Nightly version. tested in Safe-Mode and the problem still occurs. tested in Firefox Release 33.01 and all videos play fine w/ no glitches.
these were the most obviously problematic examples:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brpLKK5MeDw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxEksFNNHmY
these initially played fine w/ no glitches till i did further testing on the play/pause issue, and was then able to reproduce the bug on these videos as well (but the 2 above it happened quickly everytime):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYiFInP7wjk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OfUAQiIOWQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUN93Xz-7pg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbmBLv1TboE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2i_h-VCyk_U
Actual results:
the first 2 links would start playing normally, but then if i skipped fwd past the grey buffering status bar that moves from L to R, the audio would stop playing and the pause button would be frozen and unresponsive to mouse clicks. reloading the page was the only option to re-initiate the audio at this point but sometimes this didn't even work and the status bar stayed frozen with the spinning wheel inside the video window.
on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYiFInP7wjk i hit the back button while it was playing and the track didn't stop. it continued playing at the same time as the one on the previous page, so i had 2 videos playing at once with no way to stop the one at the above link.
the same problem happened on Soundcloud but on YouTube it was easier to reproduce.
Expected results:
videos should have skipped forward and played audio tracks. play/pause should be responsive.
Summary: many glitches with Flash on YouTube, Soundcloud → many glitches with Flash on YouTube, Soundcloud in Nightly
I don't know for sure if it's Flash or HTML5 though, as some videos/tracks are in Flash on both sites. However, it does say meta property="og:video:type" content="application/x-shockwave-flash" within the Page Source on the links on the problematic both sites i tried, and on Soundcloud's Page Source: http://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf? - so I assumed it was Flash.
This is one i checked on Soundcloud:
https://soundcloud.com/vacationer/get-free-vacationer-remix
Ok thanks. Does safe-mode disable add-ons & scripts but not Plug-ins? I tried setting Shockwave Flash to "Never Activate" and the problem still happened, so I guess it's HTML5.

Are you using e10s (the content process) in these tests?
In about:config, is the following setting true?
browser.tabs.remote.autostart
No, I had that option unchecked for all tests relating to this report.

And you weren't running these tests in an e10s window (one created using "New e10s Window")?

Please attach or paste in the results of about:support.
No, definitely not. I have never even used that command actually. In this case I was using tabs and had that open with many other tabs in the same window. Then I would quit Nightly & launch the 33.0.1 Release which would open the same window & set of tabs within it and work fine.

I tried your first link in the current Nightly with e10s enabled and can see some of the behavior you describe.
If I go into theater mode and move the slider while the video is playing, then the playback hangs. The tab itself isn't hanging, and I can still use the html5 context menu, move the slider, and move the volume controls, but there is no audio or movement and hitting the pause button doesn't do anything. This isn't reproducing every time, but it often happens after moving the slider back and forth for a while.
Here is the debug info, incase that helps.

Can you still reproduce the issue with latest version with clean new fresh profile without any addons and plugins?

I was able to reproduce this earlier, but now can't get the glitch to happen again in Nightly, with or without safe mode. I'm not sure what fixed the issue.

I tested out the first 2 links extensively on the latest Nightly 38.0a1 and the Release version 35.0.1 keeping add-ons enabled, and I can no longer reproduce the problem. Playback has returned to expected behavior. Note, I am also on OS 10.8.5 now, where before I was on 10.7.5.
