Emoji use is growing across the web and portable devices, as it is becoming the best way to express emotion within written communications.
However, Firefox lacks good Emoji character support. Mobile phones show emojis with no problem, and it is something that the web is missing out on compared to closed ecosystems.

AIUI, the situation will improve with Windows 8.1 (which ships fonts with better color emoji support). Although judging from bug 1054780, at least some people will consider it wrong. :)
