This bug will be used to track subtitles localization for Firefox 10 years. IMPORTANT: both URLs (YouTube, Amara) and script MUST remain as private as possible, we don't want to spoil the surprise before that date. That's why this bug is marked as private, and will be accessible only to people CCed to it. If you need someone from your team to review the work, don't use public forums or mailing lists, use direct emails or CC them to this bug. The fewer people know about this, the bigger the surprise ;-) Deadline: November 9 Video will be used on November 10, but we need time to upload subtitles. Keep in mind that we'll accept updates or new localizations after that date. This is NOT the final version of the video, it's a first draft we obtained to give localizers more time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCaUISIrxus Project is available on Amara for localization http://www.amara.org/en/videos/l6xdzNszDJY7/url/1311055/ You can localize it there, or localize the attached .srt file and attach your localization to this bug. Choose what works best for you. NOTE: not sure if this will be fixed with time, but I'm currently unable to see the video with Firefox. Sadly Chrome works. Just FYI in case the video is stuck on loading for you too. How to work on Amara: * Go to http://www.amara.org/en/videos/l6xdzNszDJY7/url/1311055/ * Click on "Add a new language" on the left. If you don't see your language, it's because someone already added it. * You'll find yourself into the Editor. First translate the strings in the central column (yellow background). On the right you'll see useful notes, for example to use line breaks for strings longer than 43 characters (use SHIFT+ENTER) or if the string is too long for the available timeslot. You can press TAB or use video controls on top to check your localization. * When you are happy with the results, click on the button "Yes, start syncing" on the top right, you'll be able to drag the subtitles and make them longer. * When you're done, click "Publish". You'll go back to the first page, your language should have a green dot on the left. If you want you can upload a .srt file by clicking the link "Upload them directly".
Attached file en_US_original.srt
en-US (rev2) currently available on Amara.
Attached file en_US_stretched.srt
en-US subtitles with longer time for subtitles (used Italian as a base, which should give you about a +30%).
Attached file it.srt (obsolete) —
Italian (it) localization.
Note: for de and pt-BR we already have a localized script/video.

(In reply to Francesco Lodolo [:flod] from comment #4) > Note: for de and pt-BR we already have a localized script/video. You should have it for French as well ;) But I can add our script as subtitles as well
(In reply to Théo Chevalier [:tchevalier] from comment #5) > You should have it for French as well ;) But I can add our script as > subtitles as well I honestly thought so, but I never saw the email for French, only German and Portuguese. At this point no need to add French to this one, you'll have a proper video ;-)
Attached file sv-SE.srt (obsolete) —
Added translation for sv-SE. May be altered depending on how it looks in the actual video. Mikael
Attached file sv-SE.srt (obsolete) —
Final sv-SE version for the non-final video :) That Amara website is very nice for staging localized content. Mikael
Attachment #8515454 - Attachment is obsolete: true
Punjabi Translation added. Note: Amara has no Punjabi language (pa), but Eastern Punjabi (pan),it may need to map if need to use with YouTube.
Both Dutch and Frisian are localized on Amara.
Attached file sv-SE.srt
The centered text is annoying. Re-aligned the Swedish text to be a bit more readable. Mikael

I've submitted them to Amara too.
Attached file it.srt
Updated Italian. Liz, are you going to add subtitles to YouTube when the video is ready? Do you need the file attached here or having it on Amara is enough?

I've translated the video to Basque (eu) on Amara.
I've translated Korean subtitle on Amara.
Hungarian is done on Amara.
Spanish (es-ES) is done too!
(In reply to Francesco Lodolo [:flod] from comment #13) > Created attachment 8515604 [details] > it.srt > > Updated Italian. > > Liz, are you going to add subtitles to YouTube when the video is ready? > Do you need the file attached here or having it on Amara is enough? Yep! I'll add the subtitles to YouTube when we have the final HD version uploaded. I can download the .srt files from the transcripts in Amara, so there's no need to add them in the bug if they're already on Amara. Thanks so much!

Greek translation added in Amara.
es-AR added to Amara
I've translated Serbian-Latin on Amara. Also, while translating, I noticed a typo in English: > 0:18 - 0:21 to create an internet experience that's owned by eveyone I don't know if it's just on Amara but I wanted to point that out in case it isn't.

(In reply to Liz Hull from comment #25) > We do have localized videos for DE, PT, and FR, but would love to have > subtitles for accessibility! For this video or the localized videos? Because in that case you already have the original script, right?
(In reply to Francesco Lodolo [:flod] from comment #26) > (In reply to Liz Hull from comment #25) > > We do have localized videos for DE, PT, and FR, but would love to have > > subtitles for accessibility! > > For this video or the localized videos? Because in that case you already > have the original script, right? I do have the scripts in google docs, I just need them timestamped/in .srt files to have them sync up with the video. Do you have the DE PT and FR scripts? I can share them with you if not!
(In reply to Liz Hull from comment #27) > I do have the scripts in google docs, I just need them timestamped/in .srt > files to have them sync up with the video. Do you have the DE PT and FR > scripts? I can share them with you if not! Better if you re-send them (I should have a couple), but we also need the videos on Amara for syncing. Once videos and subtitles are available, I can do a first sync and then ask localizers to review.
Attached file es-mx.srt
Es-MX done in Amara.
The automatic subtitling function on YouTube is hilarious. Recommended for use by us, for reasons of health and sanity (a good laugh prolongs life, as we say in Sweden), but it should really be disabled for the video. Micke
Chilean way localization (es-CL).
Attached file da.srt
Danish subtitles added. da.srt

Good point. We can sync these to the English VO version for now, since I'm not sure when we'll get the localized VO versions of it. Here are the scripts: German: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1g6QWK87WzIcxz0UNtwLUkddQf0JwXNTDt2pfFRGo4p4/edit?usp=sharing PT-BR: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Uu_DUhlWTM0gZD4gH71gknGnQh6oQWxEK42EswDjwA4/edit?usp=sharing French: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZFM-Ig4jKZvXbI3UnDGl67f62ZEtD6k1SAYj6mBRixU/edit?usp=sharing

Liz, did you manage to load Punjabi? I don't see it in the list
Flags: needinfo?(ehull)
Besides Punjabi missing, looks like Bengali and Dutch (see comment above) need to be updated on YT.
flod, when I can share this video to users? I want to make a post and publish it.
You're free to share it, you can also share mozilla.org's homepage directly https://www.mozilla.org/es-MX/

The subtitles for https://www.mozilla.org/cy/firefox/independent/ are in English. Is there anything else I need to do?
(In reply to Rhoslyn Prys from comment #70) > The subtitles for https://www.mozilla.org/cy/firefox/independent/ are in > English. Is there anything else I need to do? It seems that the subtitling language for the video doesn't adapt to the language code in the URL, but rather to the Firefox language version one is using. For me, for example, the Cymric page show Swedish subtitles, and I am on a sv-SE Firefox edition. /Mikael
You should see the locale of your Google account if you're logged in, or the locale based on the accept language headers sent by your browser. Apparently YT fails with quite a few locales (fy-NL, rm so far). It's not great to not have full control over this, but the only alternative would be to have our own subtitle system.
Hi, Latvian subtitles aren't available on YT. Could you solve it?
(In reply to Jānis Marks Gailis - Jean-Marc Gailis [:jm-gailis] from comment #73) > Hi, > Latvian subtitles aren't available on YT. > Could you solve it? This should be updated on Youtube.
(In reply to Ton from comment #64) > New revision (4) added for Dutch (typos and markup changes). Just uploaded to Youtube. Can you confirm your edits are now present?
(In reply to Winston Bowden from comment #74) > This should be updated on Youtube. Fully working, thanks!
(In reply to Winston Bowden from comment #75) > > Just uploaded to Youtube. Can you confirm your edits are now present? They are, thanks!
I've logged in to Google and checked the locale to Welsh/United Kingdom and checked the Settings/Content/Language is set to cy-GB and Cymraeg above English in Firefox. I've tried on Firefox 33.1 and Developer Edition on different computers but no change. It doesnt work in IE or Chrome, either ;-) Maybe this is a YT fail as well...
(In reply to Rhoslyn Prys from comment #78) > I've logged in to Google and checked the locale to Welsh/United Kingdom and > checked the Settings/Content/Language is set to cy-GB and Cymraeg above > English in Firefox. I think we found a solution: when you load mozilla.org/cy, pass the locale to Youtube (as cc_lang_pref) and force loading subtitles for 'cy'. The downside is that you get en-US instead of a better fallback if the requested locale is missing, but considering that we have 43 locales it shouldn't be an issue. Fix is already available on the test server, not sure when it will be pushed to prod https://www-dev.allizom.org/cy/

pt-PT ready on amara. Thank you
Hi Flod, I always see the es-ES subtitles and not es-AR (with a Firefox es-AR). Is this a bug?
I'm not sure: on YouTube there's no "es-AR", there's a "Spanish Latin American" but it doesn't look like the subtitles are loaded (i.e. I don't see it when I try to change locale in video's settings). NI Winston also to make sure that we load pt-PT.
Flags: needinfo?(wbowden)
The same for Asturian (code 'ast'). https://www.mozilla.org/ast/ I think that Youtube only enables some codes like xx_YY (lang_COUNTRY). Asturian is xxx_YY , so languages with 3 letters code are out of Youtube I thought the video was to be seen through Amara.. :(
It actually looks like YouTube doesn't have Asturian at all :-\ That's really annoying, it's the fourth locale we found out as unsupported https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/youtube/report-a-technical-issue/8DX1uHTTAoE If we have any sort of contacts in YouTube, can we get at least some visibility on this issue?
Yes, of course. Any help is welcome in this issue.
... and i supposse that is very easy for Youtube/Google to add support for ISO 639-2 Languages codes. I don't understand the reason because they don't enable it. We are living in yeat 2014, not 1994..
Adding Liz to help with loading pt-pt

hsb and dsb added on Amara. Thank you for enabling these languages!
I guess it's time to close this one.
