Reproducible on Aurora 35.0a2 (Aurora DevEdition - latest build from the gum twig: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/tinderbox-builds/gum-win32/latest/)
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:35.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/35.0

Steps to reproduce:
1. Make sure that you are on a machine with 1 profile ("default").
2. Launch Nightly/Beta with the "default" profile.
3. Use Nightly/Beta to download the Aurora DevEdition latest gum build (go to http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/tinderbox-builds/gum-win32/latest/). Run it and after it's done, click finish, with the "launch Firefox now" checkbox ticked. -> the "dev-edition-default" profile is created and the Aurora DevEdition is launched simultaneously with Nightly/Beta.
4. Go to Options and unchecked the "Allow Firefox Developer Edition and Firefox to run at the same time" option. Restart Aurora DevEdition.
5. Close Aurora DevEdition, delete the "dev-edition default" profile and then uninstall Aurora DevEdition from your computer.
6. Open again Nightly/Beta with the "default" profile and use it to download again the Aurora DevEdition latest gum build. Run it and after it's done, click finish, with the "launch Firefox now" checkbox ticked.

Expected results: After step 7, the "dev-edition-default" profile is created and the Aurora DevEdition is launched simultaneously with Nightly/Beta.

Actual results: After step 7, the following message is received: "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window" (the "dev-edition-default" profile isn't created).
I think this happens because the "Allow Firefox Developer Edition and Firefox to run at the same time" option was unchecked at step 4.
The installer just launches firefox.exe and this will most likely need to be handled by in product code.

The expected results are incorrect. As you noted, after you unchecked the box "Allow Firefox Developer Edition and Firefox to run at the same time" in step 4, we are honoring your preference.
