just got back from sabbatical. matt supposedly has diffs for this, I have a mail out to him.
This is the tracking bug for implementing the Prefs UI for helper apps, right? i.e. this is just a bug to implement a Prefs UI functionally equivalent to that of 4.x for associating helper apps with extensions and MIME types, right? If so, we *definitely* need this in for FCS (and preferably nsbeta2) or we'll be missing a key UI that keeps helper apps usable (especially when they start contending for priority or the association gets corrupted). Note that we have a related tracking bug 38374 for the need to support *launching* of helper apps; that may be a DUP of 13784.

bug 39923 mentions a history probme...why is this marked a dup of that bug?
Reopening... My comments from bug 13784 : When I click on the 'new type' button in Prefs|Navigator|Helper Apps and register a new application, after I press the OK button, a message window titled "Helper Application Exists" and saying "A Helper application already exists for the MIME type".Do you want to replace it?". After I press OK the window titled "New type" still remains open and does not close unless I press "cancel" or "X" . IS this a separate bug or I can add it here?

The Prefs/helper Apps UI looks fine on all 3 platforms. Have filed(bug 45670 , bug 45687) and am filing new bugs for other related problems. Verified this on win(2000071810)/linux (2000071908) and mac (2000071908).
