Steps to reproduce:

I had Firefox 22 and specifically uncheck the option 
Automatically install updates" and intentionally checked option "Never check for updates"



Actual results:

Firefox installed without my permission the software update 33.1 you called it's security updates now though.
I saw this behavior since 2013 years on many versions and computers.
And of cause next so called "security update" installed without my permission BROKE ALL add-ons (That's why I use Firefox).


Expected results:

NOTHING! Just nothing. Never ever install anything updates, security updates, gosh updates. Only I manually have to have feature to update when I want.

Why did you change it to normal?
from customer perspective it's blocker.
I was forced to uninstall on all laptops firefox because there is no use (for users) firfox as they can not use important add-ons and some data was lost as saved login name on web site pages etc.
maybe from programmer perspective it's easy to recode, from my customer is block. No use.

riongb, I think what is going on is that an update was already in progress and then the option to never check for updates was selected or a different profile was used without that option selected. I have tried to reproduce using your steps and was unable to reproduce. Can you try to reproduce this bug by selecting never check for updates if it isn't already selected, reinstalling Firefox 22, running Firefox for a couple of days, and report your findings to the bug? Thanks!
