RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1096910

People

(Reporter: dusty-2011, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:33.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/33.0
Build ID: 20141106120505

Steps to reproduce:

I upgraded from Firefox 33.0.3. to Firefox 33.1 which should have given me access to a new optional forget button. I should be able to add this forget button to the browser by using the customize option.

Actual results:

The forget button is nowhere to be found. It is impossible for me to add the button.
I have tried the following:
- I have uninstalled and subsequently reinstalled Firefox numerous times, like 5 times, to no avail.
- I have even started from an entirely new profile, and deleted my old profile, to no avail. Uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox after this did not work, nor did rebooting the PC.

I'm using the Dutch locale version of Firefox.

Expected results:

I should be able to add the forget button to the browser by using the customize option.

I've upgraded to Firefox 33.1 on an entirely different machine as well, with entirely different software and hardware. That system too gives me no access to a forget button. The bug is present on Windows 8.1 64 bits (my system), and on Windows 7 Professional 64 bits as well. In fact, I just tried a third system (Windows 7 Home Premium) a few seconds ago, I ran the update from 33.0.3. to 33.1 and on that third system too the same results: no forget button available.

This issue is definitely not caused by a conflict with an addon, since it is present on a freshly installed Firefox with a new profile.

The internet is full of reports from other people, who also have no forget button available. For example here http://tweakers.net/downloads/33757/mozilla-firefox-331.html, where user Pineka writes:
"I have deleted Firefox, after that ran CCleaner, deleted all Mozilla and Firefox folder and then all registry references. After that I reinstalled Firefox and didn't install any extensions.
Result: still no forget button."
User Paling1 writes on the same page:
"I have done the Firefox update on 2 PCs, on both PCs there is no button to be seen... Also not after several reinstalls of Firefox.
Different Windows versions, different processors and almost no add-ons."

I hope you see this is a widespread problem. You introduced a new button which is simply not available to a lot of users!!
It's not available to people where locales didn't translate the relevant strings in time for 33.1. Our localization teams are all volunteers, which is why they may not have gotten to it.

Updates to 33.1 shouldn't be seeing the tour which introduces this button; we can't really help the fact that people then read 3rd party communication which says that this button should be there without clarifications.

You can set the following pref from about:config to false: privacy.panicButton.useLocaleList

to get an English-language button and panel in 33.1, or you can wait until 34 is released (or use the beta channel! https://beta.mozilla.org/ ) and get it there instead.
