Reproducible on: Firefox 34.0 build 2, (BuildID=20141125180439).
Affected platform(s): Windows 7 64-bit, Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit.
Platform(s) NOT affected: Mac OS X 10.10 (DEL does not close the dropdown).

Steps to reproduce: 
1. Open Firefox with a clean profile.
2. Click inside the search field from the toolbar.
3. Use Up/Down arrow from the keyboard to bring up the Search History drop-down.
4. Use Down arrow to navigate to the first (empty) element.
5. Press DELETE on the Keyboard.
6. Press Up/Down arrow from the keyboard to bring up the Search History drop-down again.

Expected Results:
Either at step #5 the Search drop-down is not dismissed, or at step #6 it opens up again.

Actual Results:
The Search drop-down is dismissed at step #5, and cannot be open again at step #6 (unless user starts typing or changes focus from and then back to the Search field). See http://www.screencast.com/t/qx3XqG6o.

Shift+backspace does.

The drop-down now stays open when history is deleted, and using other methods to close it you can still open it again (assuming it doesn't loose focus).
