Just upgraded to the version 34 of the stable release and found out that Yahoo is still not the default search engine.

IIRC, auto-update offered version (34.0) will not change the default search. Only newly installed version (34.0.5) will.

Indeed, this is expected if you are using Firefox 34.0. Firefox 34.0.5 changes the default engine, but only for users in North American time zones. Firefox 34.0.5 updates aren't being served to Firefox 34 users yet, but you can download it from https://www.mozilla.org.
