Left-click selection in address box has trouble switching to just insert pointer.

Build ID: 2001101117

I am finding that left-clicking on an address in the address box to delete part
of the end of the address exhibits inconsistent behavior. It selects the whole
address, then on next click shows an insertion point under the pointer, but if I
try to click and drag to the right, as soon as I click it highlights the whole
address again.

Did query on "address" in summary field.

Worksforme on build 20011118, Win98. Third left clicking doesn't select entire
location bar content. Neither left click and drag does that (always spaking
about third clicking). Right click + drag indeed selects entire line but this is
bug 96446. "Meta" bug 62496 points to all known location bar problems.
This exact problem is unlikely to be fixed -- if you click again too quickly
after putting an insertion point in a textbox (even to drag), it's going to
look like a double-click (see bug 53144 for discussion about this). More
likely to be fixed are:

bug 62495 should be able to drag in URL bar to selcet (don't select all until
you're sure it's a click, not a drag)

bug 87410 drag in selection in URL bar should start a new selection instead of
dragging text

"bug 87410 drag in selection in URL bar should start a new selection instead of
dragging text"

- I think this is what it's doing now.

"bug 62495 should be able to drag in URL bar to selcet (don't select all until
you're sure it's a click, not a drag)"

- This is the opposite, and what I would be in favor of.
Steven, do you still see the bug you described if you leave a few seconds
between each step? (It sounds like you're doing one click to focus the
location bar, another click to get an insertion point instead of a selection,
and then a drag to select a specific part of the URL.)
Seems like a non-bug. Can we close this one?
Comment #4 is accurate in build 110745 on win98se. This is a non-issue.
WORKSFORME ok.
Great! Thanks. Worksforme.
