I've seen the issue on FF34/linux few times, but don't know how to reproduce.
Happens to me a lot, in nightly and stable, under Linux, both on my nvidia and ATI machine.
Pretty much always on start of firefox, which I do fairly often on nightly profiles.
Switching away from firefox and back seems to eventually fix, but it is incredibly annoying.
Oh, BTW. Both my machines are running MATÉ - there's been some suggestion this is possibly gtk2 only.

Could you please be a bit more specific about what you are seeing? And confirm that this is not the same bug as bug 1108273? Thanks!
I'm using Fedora 20, 64 bit.

This happens usually after creating a new profile (or using a profile which was last time used with
pre-FF34). One focuses the search bar and start typing and the popup shows up and then immediately
hides. Focusing some other program and then FF again seems to help.
I haven't seen any endless loop what Bug 1108273 talks about, but sounds still something very much
related.
And I _don't_ have focus-follows-mouse enabled in the window manager.

Does the popup reopen when you keep typing, or if you focus the location bar and then the searchbar again? Or is it completely lost until you switch to another application?
Actually focus seems to go away from the search field and one needs to refocus it. And then the same error happens again.
And usually after focusing some other program and FF again, search bar works as expected.
So, this didn't get such a good reception from smaug when I asked in IRC, but...
The behaviour of the awesomebar in terms of showing/hiding based on typing seems awfully similar to search.
And, that window behaves fine. Is there any reason search can't just do whatever-the-awesomebar-is-doing in terms of show/hide?
When I have a specific URL in the location bar, and I click it, the popup does not come up for me.

The search bar was designed to have the popup come up if there was text in the field and it gains focus.

So no, it can't "just do whatever the URL bar does" in that respect.

Not quite sure which search popup this refers to, but seeing as there's no STR and it is unlikely to still be happening now (as there's not been more complaints), I'm going to resolve this as incomplete. Please re-open if I'm wrong.
