Why is the plugincheck website using Java?
I don't think that the Plugincheck Website needs Java to show results.
It does need JavaScript.
See:
Bug 1054636 "Plugin Check requires JavaScript, but does not tell the visitor about that".
For background, to the 'Plugincheck Service', see bug 956905 comment # 148 onwards.

Somehow it uses Java, because when I open the site the Java plugin gets blocked.
Maybe it's used to check the Java plugin version?

I'm attaching a screenshot of it from a friend's computer, this morning.

She's running "Version 7, update 71. It was updated December 10, 2014, and is the most current update."

users on the support forum report that the plugin check page is hanging & not showing results with a blocked/old version of java:

This thread is very helpful, because there are screenshots.
I think that for cases where Java is set to "Ask to Activate" AKA 'click to play'
as seen here:
https://support.cdn.mozilla.net/media/uploads/images/2015-01-16-08-29-00-817c35.png
The user has to 'click to play', as seen here:
https://support.cdn.mozilla.net/media/uploads/images/2015-01-16-11-53-01-4b8cc7.png
in order to 'do a plugincheck'.
I can't test this as I have deliberately removed Java from this PC.
I wonder if the 'display the results of the plugincheck test'
are stalled if ANY of the plugins are set to "Ask to Activate"
or
if it is just the Java plugin:
(I mean the Java Runtime Environment - plugin [not the Deployment Toolkit]).
Schalk,
what do you think?
