User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:34.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/34.0
Build ID: 20141125180439

Steps to reproduce:

Use Firefox and Thunderbird or different profiles in each of them
Add word to user dictionary of one of them

Actual results:

If you use the same word in the other app or another profile you have to enter it another time because persdict.dat is stored per profile

Expected results:

Option to chose path of persdict.dat to use the same user dictionary in both Firefox and Thunderbird and in different profiles.
File must be able to be opened and modified by more than one application.
Component: Untriaged → Spelling checker
Product: Firefox → Core
Attached file Work-around as Windows batch file (obsolete) —
As a work-around I tried to hardlink the two dictionaries but Firefox even overwrites the hardlink with a new persdict.dat

If someone comes around with the same request: I added the Windows batch file that I use as a work-around in the meantime. It merges the Firefox and Thunderbird user dictionaries.
You must set the user profiles at the beginning of the script. Both Firefox and Thunderbird must be closed before you run the script.
