From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:0.9.6) Gecko/20011120 BuildID: 2001112009 All kinds of textarea problems occur when enough text is added to make the scrollbar on the right side appear. The scroll bar does not go away if all the text is selected and deleted. If a new line is added in the middle, cannot scroll above the new line. Text turns invisible when selected. Related: bug 82151, bug 98572. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Select all the text in the 2nd paragraph of the Bugzilla Helper page, which starts with "When reporting a bug about..." and ends with "...quirks mode." 2. Paste the text into one of the bug report windows such as "Actual Results" 3. A scrollbar should appear on the right side of the textarea. The cursor is at the end of the text. ======================= 4. Select all the text by holding down Shift and hitting Up Arrow 8 times. (Should be about 8 times-- depends whether an extra line was added like in bug 98572) 5. Hit Delete. Scrollbar should go away but does not. Caret is not in correct place. Cursor may vanish if Left Arrow hit. -------------------------- 4. Hit Home, then Up Arrow 2 times. Cursor is positioned at start of line that says "the default vertical alignment...". 5. Hit Enter to add a line. "the default vertical..." line will jump to the top of the visible textarea and the scroll bar indicates window is positioned at the beginning of the text. Up Arrow cannot move caret above "the default vertical...", or moves off screen 6. Hit Down Arrow until caret stops. Caret should be at end of text but is instead between "mode" and the last period. 7. Hold down on Shift and hit Up Arrow. Last line of text goes invisible.
Please retest with a nightly build. At least two major textarea fixes have landed since 0.9.6
Yup this sounds exactly like bug 74383. Brent, please reopen if this happens in a more recent trunk build. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 74383 ***

2 fixes since 0.9.6? That would explain why I couldn't reproduce this on the nightly of 28 Nov for the MacIntosh OS X. Tried with build 2001112803 on NT and problems are fixed. New bug report for this one? Occasionally could not add a line with Enter: 1. Paste enough text into textarea for scrollbar to appear. 2. Hit Home, then hit Up Arrow a few times (2 sometimes did it and sometimes had to move up enough to scroll the window a line) then hit Enter. Nothing happens. A line should have been added. Can't always get this to happen.
Brent - The problem you just mentioned above this comment still sounds like bug 74383. If you can still reproduce it in a recent TRUNK build, after 11/21/01, I would file a new bug. If you do file a bug, it would be helpful to see the actual text you were pasting.
