Mozilla does crash in StaticColor8 visuals.
It looks that there is support for StaticColor up to 7 bits - but no further
support for StaticColor8 ;-(

Checked patch "in" as part of patch in bug 112635, marking bug as FIXED.
However the StaticColor8 support isn't perfect (we're not using all available
colors)... I'll forward that to a later bug...
