As anticipated, currently with a device offline, the wrong default engine is set on profile creation. A default is not corrected when a device is brought back online. I'm assuming the same behaviour happens with a device configured under a non-US proxy/VPN. Enable Airplane Mode Start Firefox Do we have a service that adjusts this when Android is back online?
We chose this behavior intentionally on Desktop. Having the engine change again after the fact is potentially jarring, and it's unlikely that a user's first run is while they are traveling/offline.
I would agree that this is a (very) edge case, especially in fennec's case where you are likely to run the browser right after you've downloaded it, for which you will be online.
