Currently, Cheng has a Perl script that looks at the database, does some stuff, and then sends out emails depending on trending issues. This has several cons one of which is that we have no historical record of alerts, we have no way of seeing alert issues in a dashboard-y kind of way compared with other alerts, we have no way to allow people to subscribe/unsubscribe to alerts or vary alerts, ... Anyhow, so we've wanted to redo the Alerts system for a while. This tracker bug covers phase 1. Project plan: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Input/Alerts#Phase_I

Everything has been implemented. Cheng has a script that's posting alerts now. Going to close this out.
