I suspect the software used for these bookstore sites is called WebPRISM:
http://www.thecampushub.com/

In particular, their demo site at http://demo.thecampushub.com/syssales/ has source very similar to the first few sites on the whitelist I checked.

Notice the certificates used on these sites are mostly VeriSign too.
